Hi friends!
A few weeks ago, I asked on X what stock you have always wanted, followed for years but never bought.
The most given answers were Costco, Chipotle Mexican Grill and Axon but I compiled a whole list of stocks that people wanted, have followed for a long time and always waited for the valuation to come down. My own pick, by the way, was Axon as well.
I think it’s an interesting list, with above-average quality. As you can see on the right-hand side, the orange bar charts are often close to the right, which means many of these trade at or near their 52-week highs.
The problem is that when the stocks drop, people see the problems, real or in the story, and they don’t buy at the cheaper price either. We saw it recently with Adyen, for example. When the stock dropped by 40% in a single day, and continued going down in the next few weeks, many stories were spread about “much tougher competition”, “what’s their moat,” and so on. That’s what you always see. I loaded up the truck and I was quite vocal about it, on X and on Seeking Alpha. Since I wrote this article, for example, the stock is up 75%.
It’s always good to have a buying list ready and to see through very general arguments of “more competition” and “what’s their moat?” When there are company-specific problems, that’s something else and it needs more attention.
